Cranwell Resort, Spa and Golf Club
Cranwell Resort in Lenox is a great place for a golf vacation. It is on 60 acres, and includes a challenging 18-hole championship course and high-tech learning facility that is affiliated with Golf Digest. This course has also been named one of the top 100 courses by the New England Journal of Golf and one of the top 50 by Golf Boston. The course is par 70, and is about 5,979 yards. The course has fast greens and the back 9 is demanding. There are 4 holes where you have to maneuver around ponds and streams. But not only do you get a great golf game, but being set in the Berkshires, you get magnificent views. The 8th hole is on top of a plateau, and has panoramic views of the Berkshires and Cranwell's magnificent Tudor mansion (built in 1896).
This mansion features 104 rooms, which you can book along with a golf package. The 9th hole is known as the most difficult, with a tee shot to an elevated green. The golf school is great, since you can brush up on techniques. Target greens, practice bunkers, putting areas, chipping, putting and even 3 practice holes are here. This practice area is the largest in the Northeast, which puts everything at your fingertips. Cranwell also has a driving range with 25 stations, some with mats and others with grass. There is also a full-service pro shop that will fill and ship orders for customers, as well as rents top equipment.
The pro shop is located right next to Sloane's Tavern, one of four restaurants on the property, which offer everything from light fare to fine dining. The Cranwell spa facility is an excellent place to relax after a long day on the course.
